Keito was born in Japan, but lived in Suffolk, England from 5th grade (age 10) to around his 3rd year of middle school (age 14). He moved back to Japan to enter Johnny's Jimusho as a trainee in October 2006. On September 21, 2007, Keito debuted with the group Hey! Say! JUMP in the subgroup, Hey! Say! 7.

Keito's father is Okamoto Kenichi of the older Johnny's group, Otokogumi. Because of this association, when he first debuted with Hey! Say! JUMP, many people believed him undeserving, that he only got in because of his father. However, slowly but surely, Keito opened up and showed a somewhat shy but fun personality. Perhaps having the shortest hair, the quieter personality, and the foreign background made him seem awkward, but undisputably, he belongs to the group just as much as any other member.

Shortly after debuting, information came up about Keito's parent's divorce due to a difference of opinions about parenting. The agency confirmed the divorce and did not make a public announcement to maintain some privacy.

Due to his background, Keito can speak fluent English. Keito is also fluent in Japanese, but sometimes has a hard time reading kanji or speaking Japanese because he is used to English.

Currently, Keito regularly appears on the TV show, Hyakushiki, hosted by Inohara of V6. He also makes TV appearances with Hey! Say! JUMP on Shounen Club, Music Station, HEY!HEY!HEY!, and other shows.
